We also compare Water & Waste — more savings you might be missing. Most businesses focus on energy but overlook water and waste costs. We work with specialist suppliers in both areas and can often find significant savings that go straight back into your business. Ask us about it when we're in touch.

Why cafés need the right energy deal

Cafés and coffee shops have a usage pattern suppliers price into your rates. A quote built for a generic small business often isn't the best deal for a café. We look at how yours actually runs:

  • Espresso machines and hot water. Commercial coffee machines keep boilers hot all day and are often left on overnight.
  • Refrigeration. Milk fridges, display chillers and freezers run 24/7.
  • Ovens and food prep. Panini grills, ovens and toasters add peaks during busy periods.
  • Early opening hours. Most usage happens in the day, which affects whether single-rate or day/night tariffs suit you best.
  • Contract end dates. Miss the renewal window and you can roll onto expensive out-of-contract rates. We track your end date for you.

Energy for small café chains

If you run more than one café, we can line up your contract end dates, put every site on one renewal plan and give you a single point of contact.

How cafés can cut energy costs

  • Put your coffee machine on a timer so it heats up just before opening and switches off at close.
  • Switch off display chillers and back-up fridges you don't need overnight.
  • Keep fridge seals clean and condensers serviced.
  • Use LED lighting and switch off signage after hours.
  • Most importantly, never let your contract roll onto out-of-contract rates. Moving to a competitive fixed deal typically saves 8 to 18%.

Read our guide to deemed and out-of-contract rates to check whether you're overpaying.

Water and waste for cafés too

Cafés in England can switch business water retailer. We also compare food waste, cardboard and general waste collection. Ask about these when we call and we'll check them at the same time.

Café energy FAQs

What is an LOA ?

An LOA ( letter of authority ) allows us to find information from your current supplier such as usage and contract end date. If we arrange the switch we can use this to inform the supplier.

Do you arrange the switch of supplier ?

Yes we deal with everything. Once you are happy with your new rates you can sit back and relax and we will take care of the rest.

What support do you offer ?

We don't just arrange the new supply and disappear like some brokers.

If you ever have any queries or questions then we deal with the supplier on your behalf ( no more sitting on hold )

Do you offer any other services ?

Yes- we also work with waste and water suppliers and can help save you money there.

What is the best energy supplier for cafés and coffee shops?

There isn't one best supplier for every café. It depends on your usage, meter type, contract end date and credit position. That's why we compare 15+ suppliers rather than recommending one.

Should I leave my coffee machine on overnight?

Usually not. A commercial espresso machine keeps its boiler hot all night. A timer that switches it on before opening and off at close cuts wasted energy. Check your machine's guidance first.

Can I switch my café's energy supplier before my contract ends?

Usually you can't leave early without a fee, but you can often lock in a new deal up to 12 months before your end date. Send us your bill and we'll check your dates.

I've just opened a café. What should I do about energy?

Take meter readings on day one and find out who supplies the premises. New occupiers usually start on expensive deemed rates, so get quotes and a proper contract in place as soon as you can.
