Why manufacturers need the right energy deal

Industrial sites use a lot of energy, and small differences in unit rates add up to large sums over a year. Suppliers price industrial supplies very differently from small businesses. We look at how your site actually runs:

  • Machinery and motors. Production lines, CNC machines, pumps and fans are often the biggest electricity load.
  • Compressed air. Compressors run for long hours and leaks waste a lot of energy.
  • Process heat and space heating. Ovens, kilns, boilers and large warehouse spaces often make gas a big cost.
  • Shift patterns. Day-only, two-shift or 24/7 working changes which tariffs and contracts make sense.
  • Half-hourly meters and capacity. Larger sites are usually on half-hourly meters with agreed capacity charges. Getting these right can save a lot.
  • Contract end dates. Miss the renewal window and you can roll onto expensive out-of-contract rates. We track your end date for you.

Fixed or flexible for industrial users

Many smaller industrial users suit a fixed contract for budget certainty. Larger, high-usage sites can benefit from flexible contracts that buy energy in stages. We'll show you both side by side. See our guide to fixed vs flexible energy contracts.

How manufacturers can cut energy costs

  • Find and fix compressed air leaks, and switch compressors off when lines stop.
  • Fit variable speed drives to motors, pumps and fans where possible.
  • Check your half-hourly data for usage outside shifts.
  • Review your agreed capacity on half-hourly supplies so you're not paying for more than you need.
  • Switch to LED high-bay lighting with sensors in warehouses and workshops.
  • Most importantly, never let your contract roll onto out-of-contract rates.

Water and waste for industrial sites too

Industrial sites in England can switch business water retailer, and some may need a trade effluent consent. We also compare general and industrial waste collection. Ask about these when we call and we'll check them at the same time.

Industrial energy FAQs

What is an LOA ?

An LOA ( letter of authority ) allows us to find information from your current supplier such as usage and contract end date. If we arrange the switch we can use this to inform the supplier.

Do you arrange the switch of supplier ?

Yes we deal with everything. Once you are happy with your new rates you can sit back and relax and we will take care of the rest.

What support do you offer ?

We don't just arrange the new supply and disappear like some brokers.

If you ever have any queries or questions then we deal with the supplier on your behalf ( no more sitting on hold )

Do you offer any other services ?

Yes- we also work with waste and water suppliers and can help save you money there.

What is the best energy supplier for manufacturers?

There isn't one best supplier for every industrial site. It depends on your usage, meter type, capacity, contract end date and credit position. That's why we compare 15+ suppliers rather than recommending one.

What is a half-hourly meter and do I need one?

A half-hourly meter records your electricity use every 30 minutes. Larger sites are usually required to have one. It lets suppliers price your actual usage pattern and helps you see where energy is wasted.

Can I switch my site's energy supplier before my contract ends?

Usually you can't leave early without a fee, but you can often lock in a new deal well before your end date. Send us your bill and we'll check your dates.

We're moving into a new unit. What should we do about energy?

Take meter readings on day one, find out who supplies the unit and check the supply capacity is enough for your machinery. New occupiers usually start on expensive deemed rates, so get quotes early.
