We also compare Water & Waste — more savings you might be missing. Most businesses focus on energy but overlook water and waste costs. We work with specialist suppliers in both areas and can often find significant savings that go straight back into your business. Ask us about it when we're in touch.

Why restaurants need the right energy deal

Restaurants use energy differently from most businesses, and suppliers price that into your rates. A quote built for a generic small business often isn't the best deal for a restaurant. We look at how your restaurant actually runs:

  • Kitchen equipment. Ovens, grills, fryers and hobs draw heavily during service. Whether your kitchen runs on gas or electricity changes which tariffs suit you.
  • Extraction and ventilation. Extraction fans often run for the whole service and beyond, adding a steady electricity load.
  • Refrigeration. Walk-in fridges, freezers and display chillers run 24/7.
  • Opening hours. Lunch and late evening service affect whether day/night or half-hourly rates make sense.
  • Contract end dates. Miss the renewal window and you can roll onto expensive out-of-contract rates. We track your end date for you.

Energy for restaurant groups

If you run several restaurants, we can bring every site under one renewal plan, line up contract end dates and give you one point of contact. Buying for several sites together can also win better rates.

How restaurants can cut energy costs

  • Switch kitchen equipment on in stages before service, not all at once.
  • Turn grills, fryers and ovens down between services.
  • Put extraction on controls so it doesn't run at full speed all day.
  • Keep fridge and freezer seals clean and condensers serviced.
  • Use LED lighting and timers in the dining room, kitchen and outside.
  • Most importantly, never let your contract roll onto out-of-contract rates. Moving to a competitive fixed deal typically saves 8 to 18%.

Not sure if you're on the right deal? Read our guide to deemed and out-of-contract rates.

Water, waste and drainage for restaurants too

Restaurants in England can switch business water retailer, and many overpay on drainage charges. We also compare food waste, glass and general waste collection. Ask about these when we call and we'll check them at the same time.

Restaurant energy FAQs

What is an LOA ?

An LOA ( letter of authority ) allows us to find information from your current supplier such as usage and contract end date. If we arrange the switch we can use this to inform the supplier.

Do you arrange the switch of supplier ?

Yes we deal with everything. Once you are happy with your new rates you can sit back and relax and we will take care of the rest.

What support do you offer ?

We don't just arrange the new supply and disappear like some brokers.

If you ever have any queries or questions then we deal with the supplier on your behalf ( no more sitting on hold )

Do you offer any other services ?

Yes- we also work with waste and water suppliers and can help save you money there.

What is the best energy supplier for restaurants?

There isn't one best supplier for every restaurant. It depends on your usage, meter type, contract end date and credit position. That's why we compare 15+ suppliers rather than recommending one.

Should my restaurant kitchen run on gas or electricity?

Gas is usually cheaper per unit, but electric and induction equipment can be more efficient and easier to control. The right mix depends on your menu and equipment. Either way, we'll make sure both supplies are on competitive contracts.

Can I switch my restaurant's energy supplier before my contract ends?

Usually you can't leave early without a fee, but you can often lock in a new deal up to 12 months before your end date. Send us your bill and we'll check your dates.

I've just taken over a restaurant. What should I do about energy?

Take meter readings on day one and find out who supplies the premises. New occupiers usually start on expensive deemed rates, so get quotes and a proper contract in place as soon as you can.
